Boot up
It means to turn a computer. When a computer is turned on, it runs a series of tasks that are called “boot”
Break up
It means to end a relationship.
Example: Joseph and Mary broke up their marriage. They are not together anymore.
Brush up on
It means to improve a skill. People usually say this when they have to do something that they haven’t done in a while, and they need to improve it.
Example: I need to brush up on my English because next month I’m going to travel to U.S.A.
Call off
It means to cancel something.
Example: The meeting has been called off. The manager had an emergency and won’t be present.
Count on
It means to rely on someone. When you know that the other person will be there for you if you need something.
Example: Kassy is my best friend. I know I can count on her.
Drop out
It means to leave school before finishing it.
Example: I dropped out of college when I was 21 to move to another country and start a new life there.
Hand out
It means to distribute something to others.
Example: Some people handed out these papers this morning near the bank.
